How to get "old-style" X-windows effects?

Hi ho -

I'm running SuSE 8.0 - one of the window managers available looks a lot like the original X-Windows & sometiles I like to play around in it for nostalgia & training - but as I remember, X-Windows had what I'm calling the 'infinite desktop', where you could move the mouse past individual windows & there seemed to be no end to the area.

Is that possible to duplicate in TWM or do I need a 'retro' program that's not on the default list of managers?

Have you looked at fluxbox or blackbox?

Sounds to me like you are describing VTWM (http://www.visi.com/~hawkeyd/vtwm.html).

EDIT: the latest version doesn't look like twm anymore, but you can configure it to, otherwise get one of the older releases.
