I downloaded all the tgz deals from my university's FTP site and then I removed the old KDE and then ran pkgtool to get them all installed. I changed the path to reflect the new startkde. now when I run startx I get a lot of errors about DCOP not being there and something aboue KDEinit not working... does anyone know what causes these problems? did I miss a package or something?

I tried getting and using the source now also... I tried kdebase, kdeutils and kdelibs... the first 2 just give mer errors about there being no headers in the prefix dir and the libs gives me errors about mcopidl not being somewhere... what does this mean?

Have you met all the dependencies? I take it you're doing this on slackware? have you searched for a slackware upgrade to kde3 howto on google.com/linux?

When you say you changed the PATH, it sounds like you didn't change KDEDIR and possibly QTDIR. Make sure they are set to whereever you installed KDE3.
