for some reason linux i can no longer connect to the internet. at startup i get the message saying eth0 initialization is delayed and i cannot connect to anything. it just started a few minutes ago. and another thing i noticed (i'm running mandrake 7.2), when i go into drakeconf and startup settings it won't hold the settings. when i restart they are taken out again. is that normal?

So the network worked for a moment but now the eth0 is not?
I use Mandrake 72 also and it is fine for me.
Maybe your bios is set to plug and play OS and is not initiating things as may be needed for Linux(I read this awhile ago sounds ok but)
Otherwise what type of NIC is it? For $15 you can get a DLINK at Fry's and see if it works if not take it back. (alright the wimpy way out)
IRQ is there a conlfict? Pull out all but Video and NIC and try it and then work your way up. Keep the NIC off the slot under the AGP.(See above)
Let me know what happens.
