Should this command work to get the checksum of a burned CD?

md5sum /dev/cdrom1 >md5sum.txt

called from a writeable directory?

I'm trying to upgrade/restart my Linux journey. I've downloaded an ISO and the md5sum of the ISO on the HD checks out. I burned the CD with no reported errors. When I go to install, I restart the machine and the installation begins. The Ramdisk loads to memory with no on-screen errors. Then it just plain stops.

I get the message "In second stage installation" or something very similar typed in plain text at the bottom of the screen and nothing. I can type and the charecters appear on the screen. No commands work. Must reboot.

Haven't heard others having this problem, so fear it is a bad image of the CD. Any other thoughts? Am I not alone?

Thanks for any help,
Chris

ps. Anyone know of a Windows based md5sum program? :-)

How long did you let it sit there?
I seem to remember (a long time ago when I first tried Mandrake 7.0) quite a lag when it said it was entering the 2nd stage installer.
I don't know... just a though.

I'm just too impatient. When I just walked away and came back a while later install had progressed to the next stage. I never did find out how long I should have waited the first time.

Now I have to reburn the second CD, since that was rejected when it came time to install packages. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

PS. Great improvement over the RH6.1 install! Didn't get my Netgear FA311 or Diamond Fire GL 1000 Pro card correct, but package selection is very good and DiskDrake was great.
