I’m a newbie so be kind,
I bought the book Learning Red Hat Linux (it came with v 6.0)
My only trouble is running x. I can only view the upper left hand
¼ of the desktop but my monitor, a 19’ dell 990, which is not listed
is filled out. The desktop seems to be at a large display the text and
icons are big!! The PCI probe has found the correct video card, a
diamond viper 770 with 32 mb. I have tried the “shift alt +”,
xconfigurator, xf86config, set the symbolic link, tried all the
horizontal and vertical snyc rates, used svga server, logged in as
root, set diff screen resolution but still no joy. I thought I did
what the book said but I guess not.
Man that penguin has my number.
Can anyone help me ?

If you're lucky, this may be a feature, not a bug... http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Are you sure you don't have a virtual desktop bigger than your screen? I don't remember a thing of Xconfigurator because I haven't used RH since 1998 but at least xf86config lets you choose whether you want a large virtual desktop or not. When you change the resolutions for each color depth, xf86config should ask you something about "Do you want a virtual screen that is lagrer than the physical screen?" Make sure you've answered "no" to this.

Actually, it's CTRL-ALT and + or -, and not only that you have to use the ones one the 10-key pad.
