Getting to net thru proxy

I need help, I had a roommate that just moved out and he has my verizon dsl going through a *nix box (as proxy server). I have no problem getting a windoze pc to connect through the proxy, simple autodetect in IE. But I just installed red had 7 and can't get to the net! Help a newbie please. ogrnltrn@hotmail.com

Does the *nix proxy assign the windoze machine an ip address via dhcp?
