Mandrake 7.2 Sound Problems

I have a Creative Soundblaster Live! and it has worked with no problems up until now. Teh sound works under my user's account, but not under any other's accept root's. I've checked the group permission and made sure that all of the other users had an "audio" supplementary group, but still no cookie. Any ideas??? http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif

with xmms is the sound very quick and staticky (word?)

If so I've got the same problem. Don't know what it is.

I have a odd sound problem in drake 7.2 also (not 7.1). It only works when I go into drakconfig and reset all the settings. When the box boots up, wether I have sound start or not, it doesnt go.

If the sound is only working as root, try chmod 666 /dev/dsp and chmod 666 /dev/mixer. I had this same issue in slack.

I have noticed the same problems as well. Xmms playing crappy and such. There is a patch for kde but I dont know if it just adds sound ability for kde or fixes the crappy sound already there.

If you are all having problems with xmms then you might want to give freeamp a try. It works much faster on my machine than xmms ever did. www.freeamp.org (http://www.freeamp.org) if you are interested.
