I just purchased a Geforce2 MX card and when I tried to install Red Hat 7, it didn't recognize my card, instead it used a geforce2 generic driver. I didn't get the GUI installation but the text based version instead. When I tried to start X I got an error message saying 'fatal server error: no screens found'. I was under the impression that the nvidia drivers could be used for any nvidia based cards, where you could just swap one nvidia card for another and it would still work, but apparently not. I know its got something to do with the xf86config file but I just don't know where in the file the error is. If someone could help me out or send me a copy of their file, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

What version of XFree86 does RH7 come with? As far as I know, you need XFree86 version 4.02 or higher to work with a GeForce2 MX.

I just run the xf86Config to conf my Geforce2MX
and when you look at the card database it should have Geforce Card there
I'm using XFree86 4.0.2 in my Slack distro

For RedHat, I think, it use Xconfigurator at the first time instalation to configure your X, and the Card database for Xconfigurator and xf86config might be a little bit different
try xf86config as root it might solve your problems

the path is /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config

I tried xf86config and Xconfigurator but both wouldn't work but I managed to fix it up. Red Hat 7 comes with X 4.0.1 and I never noticed it before but under /etc/X11, there were 2 XF86config files, one with the original name and the other with the extension XF86Config-4. I took a guess and made an assumption that the 4 there represented X version 4.0.1 and made some changes to that file after installing all the NVIDIA drivers and it started to work.
