Hi all. I have recently installed RH7 on my Toshiba Tecra 8100. It seems I cannot get xserver to succesfully run. Here's what I've got so far.
1) Successfully setup dual boot (Windows 2000 and Linux) using LILO
2) Tried to start XFree86 server, but it would not work
3) Tried to configure XF86Config file using RH's Xconfigurator, probe would not recognize video chipset
4) Downloaded and installed latest XFree86 v4.0.2, which according to the docs, supports the 8100 S3 Savage chipset.
5) Tried to configure XF86Config file again using Xconfigurator. When allowing the probe to check my video hardware, I received the following error: "There was an error detecting the video ram on your card. You should try configuring the video card manually."
I've noticed that when trying different video settings with the probe, a low resolution mode (320x200?) is displayed asking if I can see this. If I answer yes, then that mode is used during GUI bootup to GNOME. How can I increase (or change) the resolution, to properly display the screen?
