I just tried for the first time to install Red Hat 5.2. I booted with the boot disk and followed all of the directions, then I gave it the supplemental disk (because I was FTP installing) and it asked me what type of installation I wanted: Workstation, Server, or Custom. It said in the manual that I needed about 500MB for the workstation install and I have about 750MB on my Windows/DOS partition. So I selected the workstation option and it said I didn't have enough free hard drive space. So I selected the Custom option and it asked me if I wanted to use fdisk or Disk Druid to partition my drive. It recommended Disk Druid, so I used that. Keep in mind that I have no idea how to partition a drive. It displayed my one 2.5GB hard drive. It said that the drive had 2441MB of storage and that 2441MB were used. It probably said that because 2441MB were set aside for the Windows/DOS partition. Is there any way to make a 600MB or so partition out of the 750MB free on my DOS partition without losing everything on the DOS partition? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your solution is fips. Fips is in the Red Hat cd (at least in 5.2) in directory named dosutils.

Before you use fips tho, it is best to defraf your windows partition... fips is powerfull and can wreck your drive.

A good utility if you don't mind paying for it, is partition magic 4. This will compact your win drive and allow you to create a partition for linux..

Good Luck!
