I guess WM questions is the best place for this...

Anyway, I'm currently using xdm to login to my linux computer. I'm using blackbox as my windowmanager, and I'd like to have a pretty background when using it. However, all my attempts at editing .Xsetup (.Xstartup? I can't remember what the proper file is. I know I was editing the right one at the time though!) have been unsuccesfull. I'd like to get it to launch blackbox and then use 'xv' to set the background automatically at login. I can't seem to get it to work though. It either launches xv and nothing else, or just logs in and then logs back out.

Oh.. one more thing. Anyone know how to change your default WM? I'm using Debian and I can't seem to find the right file/app to do this. The fact that I'm not very familiar with X & xdms setup/resource/etc files doesn't help either..

Try using bsetroot which comes with Blackbox. I can't remember the syntax for xv offhand, but I think it's something like xv -root mypic.jpg -exit. It's either -exit or -quit.

For changing window managers, the generic way is to edit your ~/.xinitrc.
