Hi
How do you change the screen size in gnome?
I can't see all of the screen and can't scroll to see the rest cause there isn't any
vertical scroll bar.
Also ... am planning to do an install of RH 7.0 and need to know my monitor refresh rate but haven't been able to locate that from any system info screens. any ideas?
(the store I got it from can't help and it's a generic so they can't even give me the name of the manufacturer)
thanks
Steve

You can change the screen resolution in Gnome by pressing CTRL, ALT, +/- at the same time. Now that is either the plus sign or the minus sign -- you have to use the plus and minus signs from the numeric keypad on the keyboard.
You will have to do this everytime you start Gnome.

Your XF86config file (it's probably in /etc) has a list of possible screen resolutions. When you start X, it uses the first one it finds in the file that will work. So, if you either edit XF86config manually or go back into your setup utility you can change the order so that the resolution you want comes first in the file.

You might just have a "virtual desktop" running. Try moving your mouse around to the edges of the screen (and beyond) - see if the screen moves as well. As far as increasing resolution, the trick to that was mentioned by EyesWideOpen.

When in doubt, just shoot for what you think matches. There are "generic" settings that will work with most monitor/video card combos. Try the one you think will work, and then if that doesn't work, try another generic one. Of course, it's always best to try and get the hardware specs http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Hi again
thanks for the replies ...
turns ut it's not a resolution prob, it has to do with sizing of windows - which I can now do - now that I have a complete install.
thanks
