Hi,

so you talk me into installing Linux (Redhat 5.1).
Did it last night on an old P60 (only 540Mb partition to spare). It went great apart from my no name NIC wasn't in the list. I only had 5 minutes to look at it after the install so I'm wondering if there's a GUI (like openwindows in Solaris) and if so where is it?

Ahhhhh, you installed 5.1? Why not 5.2 at least? Anyways here are you GUIs.
www.gnome.org (http://www.gnome.org)
www.kde.org (http://www.kde.org)
Make sure you check out the screenshots! You don't have to use the command line at all with these.
Also to get even more spiffy, you can run the Enlightenment Window manager with Gnome:
www.enlightenment.org (http://www.enlightenment.org)
e.themes.org (http://e.themes.org)

I'll be waiting on your return. 5.1 WILL give you problems, I promise.

Hi Col, me again!
If you want a copy of RH5.2, it was free with the May issue of PC Plus magazine.
Might be a bit hard to get now cos I saw the June issue in my local shop today!

Cheers
Mark...

If you installed everything in 5.1 then just type: startx
RedHat has the Win9x look by default.
You will be able to switch desktop enviroments from there.
I use AfterStep. It's awesome.
5.1 will give you problems. I just gave away
my copy.
