Has anyone here installed it yet? What do you think about it? On my installation, LILO refuses to install to the MBR so I'm stuck using a boot disk. Is this a common problem?

It could be if you did not make the Linux partition as a Primary Partition and instead made it an Extended one. You also need to set up the partition that you want LILO to boot off of as the Active One. Then LILO should be able to handle it. LILO usually has its own 1M partition, doesn't it?

The drive is 100% linux partitioned. I went with the default workstation install and it partitioned the drive automatically. I'll try fdisk and see if it's set as active or not. How can I install LILO after the OS is installed?

I tried a RH 6.0 install on the weekend and had a similar problem. I couldn't install LILo to EITHER floppy or the hard disk.

I have installed other versions of Red Hat in the past an have had this same problem off and on. I don't know what I'm doing differently when it does work.

LILO has to be on the first 1024 cylinders. If you go to the Redhat page and read the FAQ it explains why this is so, and what you can do to fix it. Another bootloader is Loadlin. They also have explainations on how to setup
autoexec.bat to act as a boot loader. seanmo, read the post I responded to at HWC, I went into alot more detail about why it's not done automatically.

It's doesn't have to have it's own partition, but is sometimes done put on a "/boot" partition about that size so that it can be squeezed into the first 1024 cylinders of the hdisk.
