From the article.

City officials are considering fining IBM for painting peace symbols, hearts and penguins on sidewalks as part of a promotion for the company's Linux computer operating system.

Specifically -- "the company's Linux computer operating system."

The mass media is so ignorant about Linux that it's disgusting.

According to various media articles I've read:

* IBM owns Linux.
* Redhat owns Linux.
* VA Linux owns Linux.
* Corel owns Linux.
* Microsoft owns Linux.
* AOL/Time Warner owns Linux.
* An obese, eccentric refugee computer programmer from Finland, now working at a United States tech startup, owns Linux.

Where do they get this stuff???

The advertising company was supposed to use Biodegradable Chalk, when putting the logos on the sidewalk [ pavement].

-- They found out that it doesn't last too long & fade out when people steped on it --
Chalk + people's footsteps = GONE

So someone used SPARYPAINT instead.
And became the Uber hacker / graffiti artist.

They should do a poll of all the people in the city on what they think of the Peace, Love, Linux deal.

Who knows what the results will be but we should definitely get brownie points for that darn cute penguin! :D

Chicago and San Francisco are the only cities that I have heard about that had an issue with the campaign. Earlier I saw a report on MSNBC (maybe it was CNN) about this

of course they mispronounced Linux.

I've seen those logos painted all over New York and have absolutely no problem with them at all. Then again, what good hearted New Yorker doesn't love graffiti. As a matter a fact, you can get those love, peace, penguine post cards at all the bars here. The other day a girl I work with picked one up and dropped on my desk, having no idea at all what Linux is. She just thought the card was cute. Now who's ever used the Winlogo to flirt with? Huh? God bless Linux!

Another observation:

I've worked as a PR writer in a past life. You can bet your bottom dollar that the negative press was drummed up by the M$ media machine. I'm not paranoid; I know just exactly how the news is made. Hell I used to help make it for the pharmecutical industry and 20/20. Now you don't really believe some hotshot reporter thought the story of a couple painted penguins to be newsworthy all by himself do you? ;)

Linus is obese? Too much rich American food, I reckon. Or maybe he still enjoys good old Finnish whale blubber and vodka.

When did total world domination become associated with hippie peace and love anyway? Did I miss a memo?
