I read over it and it is pretty good, but there are two things that might make it easier for newbies.
One, there are RPMs for ksymoops and modutils.
Two, make install will do the same as make bzImage and copy over the system.map.

This is the way I've always done my kernel compiling, and I have yet to get 2.4 working with rieserfs. :(

Really, I've had no problems. Did you say yes to experimental support and yes to reiserfs? Also make sure to say no the reiserfs debugging.

Thats exactly what I did. Somebody told me that that Mandrake required an rieserfs update package to make it compatible w/ the 2.4 kernel, but still no cookie. I even tried upgrading from Mandrake 7.2 w/ 2.2.17 to the Mandrake 8 beta w/ 2.4 and after it installed and rebooted, the 2.4 kernel panicked when trying to mount my rieserfs filesystems. AHHHHHHHH!!! Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. ;)
