isn't this going to open microsoft up to *tons* of more exploits?

think about it: linux has exploits coming out every now and then, and they have worldwide support on fixing the bugs..

but microsoft's exploits (which are probably more than linux hehe) have come from without even knowing the source code; what happens when people have access to it??

No. Microsoft isn't releasing their source code to the public, they're showing it to their highest profile customers, most likely (almost certainly, actually), under an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).
