Sensei, you saw it on slashdot a while ago. It was part of an article on PDA's.

See I just refuted the argument. :P

I really don't think tech is causing people to become stupid. Otherwise we would already be a nation of morons from watching TV. Err, maybe I need to rethink this position.

OK, I got it. I'm not a moron. I have a great memory (though I always have had near total recall). I use computers every day, though not as a calendar appointment system or bill reminder. If someone like me can use computers for 8+ hours a day, then I don't think you have a problem.

I think it is the rotten state of the education situation that is the problem. Kids are not taught to think for themselves. Scientific thought is ridiculed, and people are made brain dead by the boob tube.

So what are your thoughts? :D

The article refers to the "crutch" problem. If you use a crutch too long, you will develop a limp and a need for the crutch.

If you start to use the computer as a memory crutch, you will (probably) develop a memory "limp" as well.

Now, the other part about information overload is a different story. I believe it. I see it every day. Most people have more and more trouble as time goes on.

Of course us ADD types are used to it and are in hog heaven. :D

Ofcourse, if it's a crutch, so is that weekly calender in your pocket! I'm addicted to computers myself.. I think I'd go into some serious withdrawel if the world blew up tomorrow and there was no more electrity..
