You have waited frothingly in anticipation. You have endured a perpetual release date of "two more weeks." You may have, in a senseless act of anxiety over this amazing work of art, even whispered the "V"-word[1] under your breath. You have tormented the developers on IRC. You have begun the chanting. You have burned towns. You have seized ships and blockaded ports.

We already have apt-get and MandrakeUpdate and even Redhat has an rpm updater. With Gnome being the default desktop on so many companies desktop machines (ie HP) will Ximian surpass the other updaters as the standard because they have the distribution channel setup?

I think so. I have tried to use MandrakeUpdate. Tried is the operative word. The moment it encounters a single dependency problem, it can't give me the error message fast enough. I haven't tried the debian apt-get, but I hear good things about it. Could just be debian zealots being debian zealots.
I, for one, will definately use this new service (provided it's free :D...it's free, right?). From what I've read, it takes care of all dependencies for you, and the new channel distribution system is pretty cool IMO :)

I can tell you that apt-get (Debian) was responsible for keeping me interested in Linux. It was simple, fast, and worry free when it came to dependencies. Mandrake is a different story, I still have not been able to get it to do every thing I need it to do.

Anyway, if Ximian does it's job, it will make all distro's running Gnome that much better! :D
