I'm looking to install Linux to kick around and get sued to. We have a lot of Unix here at work (Sparc stations w/solaris) and though I don't have much use on them, I'd like to get to know the os's a bit better. I have heard that Redhat was a good way to go, anyone have opinions on which version to use? I had heard that redhat 6 had problems and to stick w/5.2 if I go for Redhat, but not sure if it was truth or not.
Any helpe is appreciated in advance :-)

Redhat 6.0 I'm unsure of, it's only been out for 2-3 days.
I would choose between:
Redhat 5.2/6.0, Debian, OpenLinux2.2.
Redhat's the most popular, so it should be pretty easy to find whatever you need. OpenLinux2.2 is supposed to be the easiest. Debian is similar to Redhat. Good Luck!

Thanks for the info - I think I'm going to go Redhat - on cheapbytes you can get RH 6.0 for $2 - can't beat that ;-) Granted, I could d/l for free, the bootable cd is ncie to have ;-)
I think Gnome for the gui is also what I'm leaning towards.

I use Gnome and Enlightenment. The Gnome release on the Cheapbytes CD's is impressively stable. Good luck.
