Hi (a totally newbie)

I have win98 and Linux. As usual today windoz crash and I had to make a hard reset
since then lilo is stuck at

LI prompt

cant go beyond this I have to boot throught floppy then also I can only go into linux. Tried to run /sbin/lilo didnt work.

History:

I made the following changes one day before
from partition magic in windoz
1. configuration before altering
C:
swap
Ext2
D:

2. after altering the partitions
c:
D:
Ext2
swap
in the process I had to delete the extended partion D: and swap partition and recreate them

Now Linux doesnt know about this new partions
my swap too.

Surprising: Immediately after making changes I booted into linux and everything was fine and then went back to windoz still everything was working fine. Until the craaaash

How the crash occured: I was trying to listen to a cd when real player got stuck my attempts to Kill the process and remove the cd were useless. Only left out choice was hard reset.

ANY CLUES AND SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME!!!

Maybe try using a Win bootdisk (with fdisk) and at the command prompt, do 'fdisk /mbr'. That should allow you to boot Windows.

Next use you Linux bootdisk and verify all is fine in /etc/lilo.conf to boot both Linux and Windows, make changes if necessary and then run /sbin/lilo to write lilo.

If you are not sure about the contents of /etc/lilo.conf, then post the contents here and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

An alternative would be to get away from lilo and use another bootloader. I like loadlin because it's easy once you get it set up, no more worries about mbr if you upgrade or recompile the kernel. There are some NHFs here, and I found the HOWTO easy enough.
