Hello, maybe you guys can help me with this. I'm running Red Hat 7.1 w/KDE 2.0. I have two users, Root and User. When I log on as root and it starts to load KDE, it gets stuck on loading the panel. The loading screen eventually goes away and I'm left with a blank desktop. No icons, no display panel. If I'm lucky enough to reboot without any errors, I can logon as root, and it seems to work ( I was successfull at doing this once, normally it drops me into some type of maintance prompt and, as I just learned, need to run fsck manually).

Any ideas why this keeps happening?

So nobody has never had this problem? This happens way too often to me for it not to be a problem that somebody has experienced? Maybe it's a bug with KDE? I did notice that Gnome never did anything like this before.

my suggestion is to go to redhat.com and download the kdelibs-2.1.2-1 updates
there are 5 rpm's to get 4 kdelibs and 1 artsd
download all 5 into a fresh directory
then as root cd to that directory
and run the following rpm -Fvh *.rpm
just make sure you are not running kde when you do this
these rpm's should install cleanly....
then retry startx
hope this helps
