I recently installed Apache 1.3.x package. I then compiled and installed php4.x. Both of thes packages where installed in /usr/local/apache. Before all this started I had the default Apache package installed with Red Hat 6.2. I think it put the old package in the /etc directory. Now I would like to run the package I just installed. Do I just re-name the old httpd.conf file located in the /etc directoyr and cp the new httpd.conf to the /etc folder. PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR MISS USEING ANY WORDS OR PHRASES. I AM VERY NEW TO LINUX.
Thanks for your help, syebrex

There is only 1 solution to this: Run Mandrake 7.2!
Or if you are too stubborn to accept a superior distro, hit up php.net and follow the tutorials on compiling it all together
Btw - Mandrake is 586 optimised, hella fast, and comes with KDE2 ..

Why didn't you remove the old apache install via RPM before installing the new one?
Think about it... It's also a clue to what you can still do.

hehe thanks for the help and the remarks... I wish to be hard headed and keep using Red Hat.... I think you gain more from learning at a command prompt then a GUI interface. Other distro's offer terminal but I like Red Hat...
I always appreciate any advice though..
