I downloaded RedHat 7.2 ISOs and burned them onto CD-Rs.
I downloaded Boot.Img and Rawrite, ran Rawrite to create Boot floppy of Boot.img.
When I boot from the floppy I get the Boot: prompt, when I press [Enter], I get the message "loading Initrd.img..." and then soon after i get "Boot Failed: please change disks and press a key to continue".
I am usinga Pentium II w/ 256MB and a DOS formatted hard disk (no Windows installed). I do not want to create a dual boot PC, I want to have Linux as the only OS. Currently there is 1 DOS partition on the hard disk with 2GB available. The BIOS is Phoenix 4.0 release 6.0.
Can anyone help me get started please?

Did you check the md5sum after downloading? have you disabled plug and play in the bios?

Depending on the BIOS (I'm not too familiar with any mfr's BIOS versions regarding this), you may be able to boot to the CD drive.

Put CD 1 in and try rebooting, to see if it will work that way.

If you can't boot off the CD then make another bootdisk. The quality of floppy's these days is horrible. I have them fail all the time right out of the box.

Thanks for your help. After 4 hours of downloading ISO images and another hour to burn the cd's and a few more hours spent re-booting and head scratching, a boxed copy of Red Hat from CompUsa for $59.99 looked very attractive. I got one, booted up - no more problems! Lesson learned!

I've spent hours downloading iso's before and found that they're naffed :( Just remember to check the md5sum if you download any iso's!!

It could be the cd's were not burned correctly. You need to 'Create CD from Image' and not just burn the single iso to cd.
