I had RH6.2 installed on an old dell latitude 166. When i upgraded to 7.1 and the new kernal, then ran lilo and then rebotted lilo hung. All i get is L- or LI-. I have not gotten any 1024 cyl errors or anyhting like that and 6.2 with the old kernal would boot fine everytime. Now the only way to boot is with a boot disk.

Could be some subliminal problems there.

you installed lilo to /dev/hda1 instead of the master boot record /dev/hda

i've done that before too, not a big deal

reinstall and try again.

I have tried it in both places, it does not seem to matter where i install lilo to it does not find the secondary boot sequence.

Must be something wrong in /etc/lilo.conf. Verify line by line, make any modifications and rerun /sbin/lilo.

Post your lilo.conf and partition setup if you like and we can try to find the problem.

Try putting
lba32
in the global section (the first section) of your lilo.conf file.

Change a byte from the middle of KERNEL32.DLL and try and run Windows off of it :)

Every little bitty thing makes a difference.

The computer knows only what you tell it. They are not good at reasoning or guessing your intentions. You must be very specific and mean what you say. Otherwise...
