Simple / Pseudo Network possible?

Does anyone know of a way to create a Pseudo network similar to "direct cable connection" in Windows? I'd like to connect my Linux Box with my Windows machine via the same Direct Cable Connection. I only want it to transfer files.
Any suggestions?
