after initial installation and you have selected broadband for your apt-get needs, you need to:
apt-get install make
apt-get install kernel-source.2.2.19pre17.tar.bz2
apt-get install libncurses5-dev
NOW you can recompile and get on with linux. isn't it strange that THIS instruction isn't included in any Debian README instructions and the like?
