I'm seriously thinking about getting DSL, however, it's gonna be a long process due to different wiring problems that exist (to save time I won't delve into details.) Anyways, the only type of DSL I can get due to distance from CO (grrr) is IDSL (144/144k). My first question is, does anyone have IDSL or tried it? How is it? And what kind of performace can I expect compared to my 56k modem (which only yields about 3.5k/3.5k.) Second, due to the large number of ISPs that provide IDSL, I can really hunt around, however today I saw that 1 of them offers a Linux Shell for the IDSL. So my question is, do I need to get an ISP that supports Linux? Or will any ISP due and I can configure the line in Linux later? Currently using Earthlink. Using SuSE 7.0.

IDSL is good if its the only thing you can get. IDSL is fully compatible with linux, as long as it is an external modem/router.

And in terms of performance, your modem gets 3.5-5k/s, your idsl line will get 15k/s.
