can someone tell me why the cd-rom was initialized for the first disk of mdk7.1 and not the second.i have run harddrake abd the cd-rom is not present, i tried the configuraton tool but it did nothing. infact the only hardware i am able to config with it is the soundcard.

What exactly are you trying to do? Mount the CD-ROM or what?

well to be honest with you i am so knew i really don't know. i would like to get the cdrom working so i can install the 2nd iso disk. and i have no clue how to do that either, but i guess tht will be a new topic.

If the 2nd disk was needed, it would have asked for it during the install process. You can explore the CD, however, by putting it in the drive and typing:
mount /dev/cdrom
then:
cd /mnt/cdrom
That's it! You are now in your cd-rom directory.

it did actually tell me if i had the second disk to insert it otherwise press cancel, but upon inserting it nothing would happen. when i hit the ok the message would just pop back up, but there was no activity from the cd-rom drive so it was not even trying to read it.
