In X I have a little green square on my screen. it is about 100 pixels wide and has the shape of a normal screen.
If I lower the resolution with ctrl alt + then the screeen scrolls around, but the image of the green square stays in the same spot on the monitor. it's size is now bigger to reflect the change in resolution.
is this a v4l thing? I have a tv tuner card. 2.4.4 kernel
nvidia vid card running the nvidia driver

This has nothing to do with the window manager. I suspect it is some sort of combination of X and my tv tuner and the monitor that I am using temporarily...
any ideas?
I had a similar thing happen to me but it did not appear in X in was on the console only. Turned out that it had something to do with xdm being installed. If I remove it BEFORE ever trying to get into X it never appears. If I go into X first I have to reinstall to get it to go away. I would be anxious to know what corrects it though.

I have an IBM laptop with a green blob on the screen that looks like a dragon. Puff, the Magic Dragon, I think (insert friendly, non-threatening roar here)... of course the problem there is a screen defect. Remember, if your wife throws a butter knife at you in anger while you're playing with your laptop, DON'T DUCK... stitches in your head are cheaper than a new display.
