quitting X = lockup! help

Everytime I logout of X (xfree86 4.1.0-5, KDE 2.1.1) my computer locks up. Its a hard lock, with a full screen of your normal "exiting x messages".. PLUS a wacky RGB artifact, often a large green box or sometimes fuzzy RBG distortion that fills the bottom half of the screen.

I think this may be related to my ATI TV Wonder Card, which works fine with xawtv.. but I'm not sure.

What more info can I give to help in resolving this problem? Would the very bottom of my /var/log/Xfree......log help? I'm sure I could figuire this out if I can just knew where to look for symptoms.

Yes looking in some of the log files in /var/log should help.

Also try searching at Google (http://www.google.com/linux) for your problem. You might find a solution.

I had a similar problem with logging out of KDE back to the login screen (kdm). The system would not respond at all (keyboard or mouse). It was attributed to the kernel I had compiled myself and with a little troubleshooting, I found what the problem was.

Your problem seems to be different though.
