RH 6.1 Install Probs

I had my harddrive set up just for Win98 with only one partition.I used fips to make another 4.5gig partition for RH 6.1. When i try to install RH i get kernal panic errors and it stops the install.After using fips do I need to format the new partition and if so how can i do it? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello:

All is not lost. If you can boot from CD, inaert RH CD and follow the path. If not, reboot into DOS with CDR support. at the a: prompt (or whatever it is) cd to the CD. If all you have is a basic system the dive letters may change. No worries. In DOS just fing the CD drive. In DOS, cd to \dosutils, then execute autoboot.bat. This will start RH 6.x install proggie, and take you to Diskdruid. After that it's a piece of cake.

Hmmm...does anyone else miss the text install on RH 5.1? One of the language choices was Redneck. Very funny stuff.

Anyway I guess I didnt go into enough detail.I can get it to boot from cd and everything is fine. I go into expert install(same thing happens from normal) and it goes all the way to checking partitions and I get: crc error unable to load root then Kernel panic unable to mount root to ...So I never get into the actual install.
