version: redhat 7.1,
problem: recently after configuring my GUI for ximian gnome, I had problems with my control center freezing. I restarted xwindows, only to find out I lost both of my panels. Doorman will not get them back. I'm running off a terminal server. Any suggestions?

I have had that issue, although, been a long time. First, try to open an xterm by double-clicking on the desktop for a programs menu. In that term, type panel &.
Get things set up and then do a "save session". Now, if you can't succeed that way, in that users home dir, rename the .gnome folders. When Gnome restarts, seeing no .gnome dirs, it will default to first time setups. Then, you can copy stuff from the renamed .gnome over into the one just created, and then abandon the renamed one. One more: IF you have another user on the system that works OK, copy his .gnome into your directory, chown it all to you, and away you go. You will also see the wisdom of making a backup of .gnome someplace else on the box, too. HTH, Ray
