Well, from my experience, nothing beats genuine soundblaster.
Otherwise, check the hardware howto or the hardware compat list at www.linux.org (http://www.linux.org)

SoundBlaster Live
$35.00 at www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com)
it does require a PCI slot, which you probably already know http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Whatever card you decide to get, avoid SoundBlaster PCI cards, they just don't work at all... Or very well with Linux (actually, they don't work very well in Windows either, so...)

Too much Sun can give you cancer. Windows break too easily.
Apples/Macintoshes can rot. BSD... sounds too much like LSD.
Penguins are the only animals sophisticated enough to wear a
tuxedo.
Linux, the only one with the Penguin.

hate to break it to you, but SoundBlaster cards work great in linux, my sblive card works perfect and my older sb16 card worked flawlessly.
Actually, every story I've heard about sb cards in linux was only about how to install drivers, not about problems.

Q: How many existentialists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: Two. One to screw it in and one to observe how the lightbulb itself symbolizes a single incandescent beacon of subjective reality in a netherworld of endless absurdity reaching out toward a maudlin cosmos of nothingness.
