Preparing machine to load "Linux_Caldera Systems"
...
Stage1 blink blink blink

That is all I see now when I start Linux on my dual boot machine. Windows98 boot fine.

I am just learning Linux and "it worked fine yesterday"...

This looks really bad!

I do not have a linux boot disk. :(

Is my only option to reinstall????

thanks in advance.

Would you mind providing a little more info so we can try to help. That doesn't tell us much.

I've used just about every version of Caldera and never had a problem.

What version are you using?

OpenLinux 2.2
OpenLinux 2.3
eDesktop 2.4
Workstation 3.1

or any of the Server releases.

How do you have your partitions setup for Linux and 98?

2.2 and 2.3 use Lilo, while 2.4 and 3.1 use Grub. Where did you install Lilo or Grub? mbr or boot/root partition.

You should have created a bootdisk. If I remember correctly, all their versions allowed you to create a bootdisk during the install.

Always to the 'Expert Mode' install as it gives you more control over everything. Some are afraid of 'Expert', but there's nothing hard about it. Like I said, it just gives you more control over the hardware and install process.

Thanks for the quick reply.

eDesktop 2.4
BootMagic offers a selection "Windows/Linux"
Grub is installed on a Linux extended partition with Win98 on the primary.

I have learned a lot since the initial install and realize that I made a lot of mistakes. Probably the best thing to do is reinstall. AND build a boot disk! :D

I assume that a reinstall will overwrite all of the old data?

thanks

Yes a reinstall will overwrite the original install.

I seem to remember something about BootMagic and Grub having a problem if grub is installed past a certain point of the hardrive. Or it might have been if grub was installed on a second or third hd.

Have you used http://support.caldera.com/caldera for any problems yet? You may want to search their for any BootMagic/Grub limitations before you do reinstall.

If you need other help with eDesktop 2.4, let me know as I used that version since it was released around a year ago until I recently upgraded all my home and work pc's to their newer Workstation 3.1.
