Went to a web site today and it had a gray block pop up on the screen with the words "loading applet" in it. After a few seconds the Java Console poped up and had the following message...
Java VM version: 1.3.1
Java VM vendor: Blackdown Java-Linux support team
unable to load JSSE SSL stream handler,
https support not available
After a few seconds the following mesg. shows up on the console...
Applet Glide Navigation 1.1
copyright 19999 Using it Software
Then the applet poped up.
I use Konq as a browser...does this mean that I have something broke or am I missing some bit of software?

In Konqueror, check under Settings/Configure Konqueror and then Crypto/OpenSSL and see if the path to the OpenSSL libraries is there. Mine is /usr/lib.
I'm not sure if this is the solution, but it's worth a try.

The site is Stanleyworks.com
I checkec the configure Konq (Ver. 2.2.1) area and I do not see anything about OpenSSL or anything giving paths exctpt Java. The tabs in the config. Konq section are HTML, Appearance, Java, JavaScript, & Plugins. Which section should the path statments be in?

When I have Konqueror open, I click the toolbar for
Settings
Configure Konqueror
The Settings window opens and then
Crypto
and in Crypto there is the OpenSSL tab.
That's the way it is on mine with ver 2.2.1

Ok..I found it.
SSL is the only tab
Use TLS is not checked
Enable SSLv2 and enable SSLv3 are checked.
All ciphers in SSLv2 are checked.
All ciphers but 4 in SSLv3 are checked.
Warn on entering SSL is unchecked.
Warn on leaving is checked.
Do not see any path statments

Like I said, I don't know if that is the solution. Since your error message had 'unable to load JSSE SSL stream handler, I thought enabling OpenSSL may be the solution.
I have SSL, OpenSSL and a few others. Maybe each distro will setup KDE and OpenSSL a little differently.
Have you tried KDE's support site? Maybe a Google search for those error messages.
Can you use another browser? Netscape, Mozilla, Opera etc.

I will check at the KDE site and search as you suggest. I have been bouncing around from browser to browser and have decided to setttle in with the KDE programs till I get my feet planted a little better in Linux. I would like to un-install the other browsers to remove the temptation to use them and end up with email all over the place. It is not a major problem, I thought I might be missing a plugin. No plugins are listed in Konq setup but the "Enable Plugins" box is checked. Thanks for trying.
