upgrade in RAM

If I upgrade my RAM from 128mb to 384MB will i notice a difference. Some people say no. I need a larger number of inputs.

Number of inputs? If you mean virtual terminal the answer is no. That is something you can change without buying more memory... Guess 128 meg should be quite enough... use the "free" to see how mush thatis used.

What do you do with your computer? Are you running some sort of high-performance server? It really depends. I mean, my mother can get away with having 32 mb of RAM on here computer as she only has 1 program open at a time (MS Word or Internet Explorer), but I need more RAM in my computer to keep it from swapping to disk all the time...

This will tell you actual free memory (in MB):

free -m | grep s/c | awk '{print $4}'

and if you change that 4 to a 3 you get how much is used.

Yes you will most likely notice a difference, but would you notice a difference from 256 to 384, that's questionable depending on what apps you're running.
