Hi,

I was having trouble playing mp3's. I thought it was my sound card this whole time. Im using RH7.2 w/ ximian gnome, on Dell Inspiron 2500 w/ intel AC 97 audio controller i810 chipset.

The drivers seemed to check out, but I kept hearing this sqeeking sound. so I unistalled xmms and reinstalled it. that didn't work. so I tried installing other mp3 players. I couldn't get any of those to work though. so then I tried just playing a CD. the sound was fine! So it really wasn't the drivers.

So then I reinstalled xmms. but now it doesnt play anything. when I play a song the slider that indicates the time left in the song goes super fast and there's no sound. Any other mp3 player goes fast also. how can I set this right? I don't know what the cause could be. does anyone else? Some other player must have screwed up something, but what?

thanx,

Check this out.

I discovered Alsa player and installed it. Funny I dont remember installing Alsa sound drivers, but it works.

when I first used it. the sound was all fast still, but there is a small knob on there that let's you reduce the speed. I shot it down to 92% and it sounds pretty good. Shooting it back to -75% makes them sound like SATAN. pretty cool feature.

anyway, So im guessing the sound-play rate-whatever is going faster than normal. How can I tweak this in redhat?

thanx
