Just started playing with the Mandrake Distro, cause I've had it with an OS that hides all the inner workings, making it unusable. Certainly got what I wanted! Been having fun for last couple of days reading manpages and trying stuff.. Getting my hardware working.. My Compaq Presario 1275 laptop seems to take to linux better than most I've heard of, but having intermittent boot freeze.. Last msg is "Configuring Kernel Parameters" (Next message when not froze is "setting localtime", and then loads APMD, e2fsck, etc.)
Of note, I have some bad sectors on the partitions (Windoze dual boot setup)I've installed MDK on.. Already run Badblocks and e2FSCK -f on it... BTW, any way to do this BEFORE INSTALL??
It also says I have K6 361, and I have K6 266 CPU.. Could "Virtual Overclocking" be the culprit here??
I can change nothing, just turn it off, and reboot and it will boot fine. Sometimes takes several reboots, especially when system is hot.. When repeated powerdown doesn't work, E2FSCK usually finds an error..
Disk errors only seem to affect the boot minimally..
Any ideas, I'm fresh out..
