Need help installing MANDRAKE 6.1 (yeah its old...so)

Ok, I watched a few movies whih came with the CD etc. and I deleted my EXTENDED partition and tried to add a pre-setup linux parition using a specailly setup Partiion Magic that came with the program. The company seems to have forgot to add the program exe so I can't runn it, but anyways, I added the LINUX NATIVE and the LINUX SWAP partitions using the install program, and all was going fine, until it started installing. The screen had a dialog box saying "Making something ext2"...
Then it just sat there forever until I had to restart my PC...
Any suggestions on what I should do now?
Ps. I have a 10 GIG HD which 5Gigs are taken up by Windows ME etc.

ext2something is just the linux way of saying that it's formatting your partition. Are you installing from a cd boot, or trying to do it through windows. I've had problems trying to install through windows before...
