From what I have been able to gather these are two file systems that emulate windows...
First of all I'm wondering if I'm right about this.
I'm also wondering what the differences are and what the advantages and disadvantages of them both are...
Thanks

Hmm I used to love KDE more but I was wandering why 3d games didn't run on it :D In gnome games like tuxcart run smoothly. So now I'm on Gnome.

I like KDE better than Gnome. It's just a matter of personal opinion. They both have their separate advantages and disadvantages.

Yeah, they are just apps that provide a GUI vs. command line. Basically like Windows 3.x did for DOS.
I don't have a preference either way. They provide the same functionality for what I'm doing. So, uaually if I use Redhat I'll use Gnome, Mandrake = KDE.

Well, they aren't filesystems, and they don't emulate windows..
I used to use GNOME, but the newest version EATS memory.. So I switched.. I'm a KDE user now.

I don't use either one. I think they both suck. Desktop environment are practically useless because good window managers like E and WindowMaker can do almost everything a desktop environment can do, but use less memory. If you use a desktop environment, you still need to run a window manager, so why run the DE?

KDE just has color changes
GNOME uses the gtk+ themes, so its pretties(Especially with the aqua themes)

I like KDE a lot more.... Gnome just seems more cluttered, and less intuitive, while KDE is slick and easy to use.
Just an opinion. :)

I don't like either that much, but if I had to use one of the two, it would be GNOME. It looks better, and I'm more used to it...

To sort of quote others with my own personal twist:
KDE is to Gnome as Chocolate icecream is to Vanilla icecream. And a lot of people prefer something a little more flavorfull like Moose tracks (here is where WM, BlackBox, FVWM, and many others come in).
Here is a link to an article which talks about KDE vs. Gnome: www.windowatch.com/linuxdt (http://www.windowatch.com/linuxdt.html.) (for some reason the link does not work for me on the post, but that is where I found the article.)

Can you have more than both installed at once?

yes you can have more than one installed, you can select which one you want to use at login time. but why have both? It makes no sense. Its like having win 95 and 98 on dual boot. It just takes up space.

Well, I tend to use IceWM and Blackbox, but between KDE and Gnome, I use KDE more. Gnome looks better to me, but the new version 1.4 runs like sludge on my P3-550 w/ 256MB of RAM. KDE runs great. I have to wait and wait for a Nautalis window to popup, and that's not good. Konqueror is up and running in 1 second at the worst. So, for function, KDE is my choice.
