How do I access linux from windows? I can telnet just fine, using the simple command prompt "telnet", but it doesn't exactly handle everything quite right (like editing files, for example) and I don't know how I can send or receive files through a telnet prompt.

I've got cygwin on this windows box, would that be able to do it?

What's the best way to establish a connection between these two, with my windows computer basically acting as a terminal, but still with file accessing abilities?

Well through my university we use a program called "Putty". It's a tiny little program, and works just like a console. You can even run multiple windows to emulate a linux system!

For file transfers i use "WinSCP", Also a tiny little program.

If you have trouble finding either i can e-mail them to you. I can't remember exactly where i got it.
