I have installed Red Hat 7.1 on my machine /slowlly but works - 200MHz IDT C6 with 32MB RAM and 6.4GB HDD/. The problem is, I can't use mouse in console, in X too. By installing in text mode was launched Xconfigurator, he can't find mouse /serial on ttyS1 - M$ compatible/. I have choose the right one /I think/. But by reboot/start it writes
...
Detected PS/2 port for mouse /or something as this - I haven't PS/2 plug/
...
Starting mouse console services [OK]
...
Than after logging in I can't see mouse cursor. And when I start Xwindow /KDE, Gnome... same problem/, I can see cursor, but it moves not. I have started mouseconfig, by start it writes:
line 5 unexpected in /etc/sysconfig/mouse
In line 5 is DEVICE=/dev/mouse
Link /dev/ttyS1/ to /dev/mouse is ok.
When I delete from /etc/sysconfig/mouse last line and from type description all texts in " " and start new mouseconfig mouse is starting to working /I see moving cursor - any click works not/. I choose none for mouse type, save and exit. Than I start one more time mouseconfig. There now appears this message /...unexpected.../ and I choose M$ compatible mouse, choose right port, save and exit and now I can start Xwindow with mouse support /mouse is working propertly/. After exit and restart X-session is this problem back.
By Red Hat 6.2 it was the same problem, but without this error message /...unexpected.../, I launched mouseconfig for two times /first -choose none for mouse type, second - choose M$ mouse/.
I have tried change my mouse for Genius or other types, it was the same problem. Knows anybody, where the problem can be? Thanx.

I see nobody responded to your other post (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=014293) from a few days ago. I thought I had.

Anyways, is your serial mouse on com1 or com2?

ttyS0 - Com1
ttyS1 - Com2

I just reread your post and see that you have gotten the mouse to work sometimes. Are you configuring the mouse as root?

Head over to http://www.xfree86.org/current/mouse.html and see if there are any suggestions for your Genius mouse. It may work if you manually edit XF86Config and enter the configuration options yourself.
http://www.xfree86.org/current/mouse6.html#30 has the Genius serial mouse using 'Auto' or 'Intellimouse' as the Protocol.
