I recently purchased the 'MSI KT266 PRO-2 RU' which has an Avance ALC 201A (Ac'97 compat) onboard sound chip. For the life of me I cannot get it to work w/ linux. It does appear under IRQ 11 as a sound device, however it offers no functionality what-so-ever. Anyone else have this board/problem? Any ideas would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

i have a soltek mb with the ac97 onboard sound, and I have exactly the same problem, anyone know where I could download drivers that work? I have redhat 7.3... and it thinks its a sounblaster 16 for some reason.

what happens if you reconfigure sound a tell it to use the ac97 codec (aka the via82cxxx_audio)?

Which distro are you using? Which sound server, OSS or ALSA?

My old motherboard had this sound chip and I only ever had troubles when I used Mandrake.
