Hello
I have been trying to install the newest sblive drivers on my mandrake 8 machine, but unfortunatly i have having some trouble. I have been following the NHF on the site about "Getting you SB Live to Work" and i get some problems when trying to run make...
first of all i didnt have a dep directory to remove, but i dont know if that is improtant or not...
i can run make depend, and make clean with no problems
when i run make though i get the following errors:
-------------------------------------------
cardmi.o cardmi.c
In file included from /usr/src/linux/include/linux/mm.h:4
" " " " " " " " "/slab.h:14
from cardmi.c:33
(same path as above) /sched.h:6
nondigits in number and not hexadecimal
parse error before '7b16c344'
warning: function declaration isnt a prototype
make: *** [cardmi.o] Error 1
--------------------------------------------
then i am back to the command promt
i am loged in as root
the kernel version is the distro for mandrake 8 (2.4.3-20mdksmp)
any help would be greatly appeciated

Is there a reason for updating the driver???

it was my understanding that the driver inclued with mandrake 8 didnt support everything that the lastest one off creative's opensource page did...maybe i am wrong...
i dont have digital support nor sound out of the rear speakers. do i need to custumize the one in the build to get these features?

only doing it because i thought needed to, to get a greater level of functionality out of the card in linux.

Downloaded the driver again off creative opensource, just to make sure the files were not corrupt. =( no luck, does the same thing....

Can anyone help me here?

I am running Mandrake 8.0 with an SB Live, and mandrake supported my card right out of the box, no external drivers necessary.

If you think the card doesn't work, try turning up the volume. I remember the first time I installed linux and I thought the sound card drivers weren't working, but instead the real problem was that my volume was just too low to hear.

At first, I didn't think of it, because in windows I could hear just fine, the idea that the volume was too low sounded absurd to me... but then I turned the volume up and I could hear everything :)

Okie, sounds good, but do you get sound from the rear?
and are you using digital or anlog?
(im trying to get my dtt 3500 working with 4 speakers on the digital) is this just not supported period?

one more question, the mixer in mandrake 8 is a generic (ie no front/rear balance) how would i even turn up volume in rear?
p.s. i get sound out of spdif just fine, none out of digital din (orange connector in back)

saw there are utils with the drivers...
if i just use the mandrake 8 drivers, can i still load the utils?

I believe I'm using analog, but I'm no experon the subject.

If you use aumix to change the volume (my volume control of choice), the one marked "Line3" appears to be a balance slider between front and rear channels

(I have two tweeters and a sub plugged into my front channel, and two more tweeters plugged into my rear channel)

I don't know about the utils you speak of, though.

Just fool around with all the sliders in aumix. You'll find ways to control the volumes for different things... :)

ok...
guess the digital port doesnt work in linux?
i dont have a line 3
in aumix i have:
Vol
Pcm
Spkr
Line
Mic
Cd
IGain
Line1
Line2
Digital 1 (dont know what this is)
Phone In
Video
(i do have a LiveDrive)
if i disconet my spdif i get no sound at all
my digital light on cambrige box just flashes (meaning it is not makeing a digital connection and reverts to analog)
problem is i have another pc connected to the annalog as it sound source =(

I know in windows to get the digital working i have to enable digital out only
(a feature normaly found by opening the advanced features for the main vol)
anyone know if there is such a way in linux to enable this?

hm, that's interesting. my aumix settings look like this:

Vol - Master volume
Bass - Master bass volume
Trebl - Master trebel volume
Pcm - Also master volume (?)
Spkr - no effect
Line - no effect
Mic - volume for microphone output
CD - cd
Rec - no effect
OGain - no effect
Line1 - no effect
Line2 - controls volume of front channel only
Line3 - balance slider between front & back channels
Digital1 - no effect
Digital2 - front channel volume
PhoneLn - no effect

seems strange there's a few duplicates... and no actual controller for the rear channel.

anyway, sorry I couldn't be much help. All I know is that my mp3s sound good, and that's all I care about :)
