I have just installed RedHat (7.0) for the first time ever. So far, so good. I also have been able to install Staroffice 5.2 - at least I think I have. My question is, how do I execute it? I installed Gnome's desktop, and did the Staroffice install through a Terminal Window, so I should be able to execute it from within Gnome, right?

Thanks,

Wayne Arnold

You can stick around and fight if you like - it'll be tough! - but there's a bug you can take advantage of. He only ever fires at YOU, and totally ignores the girl. Here's what you do:

As soon as he appears, rush back to the door you came in from and get behind the big pillar at the back of the room. If you're too slow you'll get wasted by one of his energy bolts but if you make it you can hide behind the pillar while his shots impact safely on the other side.

Meanwhile the girl is filling him full of lead without him batting an eyelid and he's too stupid to stroll around to the other side of the pillar and take you out. You can literally go and grab a snack while you wait for her to finish him off.

Oh wait, I just answered a question from the wrong forum. Damn, sorry.

You can execute StarOffice through Gnome, but you will have to manually add an icon in the "Start menu" thingy.

Alternatively, you can run it by typing:

office52/soffice

From your home directory. If this doesn't work it could be that you haven't installed the workstation side yet.

After you install StarOffice, each user has to run the workstation install:
(Logged in as you, not root)

/usr/local/office52/program/setup

This is provided that it's installed in /usr/local.

This starts the install and you can select "Standard Workstation Installation" (I think it's called). This will install a few due-dads to a directory called office52 in your home directory.

To add to the gnomes menu, there's a file in your home directory, probably starting with ".", that will allow you to add items to the menus.

Unfortunatly, due to the freedom-of-choice of Linux, few programs can add themselves to menus like Gnomes, because they would have to include code to cover every possible destop manager etc...

Hope I could help.

PS: furrycat, what's that game, it sounds entertaining http://discussions.linuxplanet.com/wink.gif

Red Faction.

Fun for the four hours or so it takes to complete it but no replay value. Sadly, the (true) situation description above is just one example of the many AI bugs.

Now a high quality game with no problems at all is Tux Racer. What's more it runs on Linux (hence on-topic): http://www.tuxracer.com/
