I have tried unsuccesfully to get xscanimage to run under Gimp. I used the directions to set up a symbolic link and that didn't work. Next, I copied xscanimage to the Gimp plug ins, but the Xtns doesn't show it in the plug ins. I was able to add an Icon to the desktop and get xscanimage to run, however it only works while I'm in root. When I log on as my regular user, clicking on the Icon on that desktop causes a momentary blip, but nothing happens. Gimp runs fine as my regular user, and I tried to configure xscanimage properies the same as the Gimp properties.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I have several photo albums to scan in a very short time.

If your scanner is a parralel port scanner, xscanimage will only work as root. Link xscanimage in the .gimp/plugins folder in the root home folder,(.gimp/plugins is a hidden folder) and it should work ok as root.
