Right, so this could be a long one. I'm running Mandrake Freq 8.0 June Release (i know...its a beta, maybe even alpha!).
I've got a p3-600e @ 672mhz w/ 256mb ram on an IBM 16gb HD with a SBLive Value and a brand new Asus v7100 Deluxe Geforce2 MX 32mb.
Here's my main problem. I can't get my openGL working. First i was having trouble with just setting the XF86 server to 4.1.0 through the Mandrake Control Center, which btw kept giving me the choice of 3.3.6 and 4.0.3 (which i guess really meatn 4.1.0), so...whenever i chose 4.0.3 (4.1.0) it would test the config and then crap out, i wouldn't have to restart the xserver, but the desktop would keep screwing up. So eventually what i did was opt to NOT test the conf... and just restart...afterwhich i used "XFree86 -version" to see what version i was running, and it shows v 4.1.0. GOOD.

Next...i got really pissed off cause i found a really irritating bug. I can't unmount my cd-rom drives...so whenever i wanna change cd's i gotta reboot. So eventually i got the kernel source installed, so that i could install the Nvidida Kernel Drivers and OpenGl libraries. I DL'ed the tarballs so that i could compile myself. NVIDIA doesnt have an rpm for the 2.4.5-5mdk kernel. so i make the kernel driver, and i make the opengl libraries. Then i edit the XF86Config-4 to have the load "glx" line and changed the driver from "nv" to "nvidia" then reboot.

AND...guess what...still doesnt work! ARGHH!!! i still get the "no GLX" error at openGL games. So, what have i done wrong!?!

I was having the same problems before w/ drake 8.0 normal. i followed the directions show at www.littlewhitedog.com/reviews_other_0002.asp (http://www.littlewhitedog.com/reviews_other_0002.asp)

also, if i cant fix that, at least how can i unmoumt my CD?!?!? unmount comes back as "unkown command" or sumtin!?!? that just cant be right!

i really need help on this one

thanks

Well I can't pass along any info about the GeForce2 problem (although I have one on order, so I'll keep an eye on this thread), but the unmounting problem with your CD could be because you're typing "unmount /mnt/cdrom" instead of "umount /mnt/cdrom" (only one n in umount.) You may also need to mount/unmount as the root user, depending on your setup.

The command for unmounting is "umount", not "unmount".
