Switching to KDE

I am a Linux newbie. I recently installed Linux Mandrake 7.1 and I managed to login to KDE for the first few times. Now whenever it boots up it stays in the console mode login and am getting 'display error' when I try to use KDE or DrakConf or others. Please help.

After you log in at the console, have you tried startx?

First things to do is to run 'startx -probeonly'. This will check to see if the fault is in the X setup. If it is you will see some failure stuff. The next thing to do is run Xconfigurator, which I think is the one that comes with Mandrake - I have Mandy 7.2 and Xconfigurator seems good. Hopefully this will sort your problems and you can reboot with now worries.
