My Modem did work what happened?

My modem used to connect to net, now I get
a loopback error.
Exit Code:17
The PPP negotiation failed because serial loopback was detected.
Anyone know why this is or have a fix or can point to where I can get info on it?
Also I did a fresh install I thought and I is still doing it. :mad: Oh running MD 8.0
on PIII 450, VIA Chipset, USR Ext Modem.

I did a Google search for Exit Code:17 (http://www.google.com/linux?site=search&restrict=linux&hl=en&lr=lang_en&safe=off&q=+Exit+Code%3A17&btnG=Google+Search) though it didn't produce very much besides a couple of pdf's on Linmodems. Have a look to see if they help.

If not, are there any other errors messages you could post or search yourself at Google?

Thanks I did that befor I figured it out.
It was because I am on a Dula boot Win98&
Mandrake. Seems the software that came with the modem cannot be overwriten in linux,ie.
cmd strings stay at what I put them at in win
untill I reset it under windows back to default string. SO all is fine now. :rolleyes:
